PLAYBOOK

Freedom and opportunity are what create prosperity. At AFP, we strive to create an economy that works for all—empowering people to earn success and realize their full potential.

ECONOMIC FREEDOM

Government regulations can play an important role in ensuring there is a level playing field and protecting the public, but overregulation can have the opposite effect.

REGULATION

Georgia already has a flat personal and business tax, but we need to lower these rates dramatically. Neighboring states are outpacing us and our long-term destination for both businesses and families could be put in jeopardy if this is not addressed.

Besides spending restraint, an appropriate way to reduce taxes across the board while still maintaining a balanced budget and fiscal responsibility is to phase out and end wasteful tax credits and tax exemptions that only benefit niche special interests.

TAXATION

While some occupational licenses promote general welfare and better health and safety, too often licensing is simply used to gatekeep—making it harder for people to enter a field, and artificially keeping prices high for consumers. The state should seek to find the right balance and right-size many of the existing licenses—whether that be removing license requirements for certain jobs, or reducing the amount of education or experience required.

Broadly, we want to increase personal choice for workers and stop limiting the types of mutually beneficial relationships that can be formed between workers, businesses, and consumers.

EMPLOYMENT POLICY

We believe the purpose of education is to help students discover, develop, and apply their unique abilities. Each and every student must have access to an education that unleashes their extraordinary potential - regardless of their family income or ZIP code. Pursuing policies that allow for more customizable and individualized learning is the right play call.

EDUCATION

HOUSING AFFORDABILITY

A core tenet of the American Dream, owning a home is becoming harder and harder for many Americans. Protecting property rights as well as supply side reforms related to zoning, impact fees, and permit approval times are appropriate steps the state could take to drive down the cost of homes.

Reforming healthcare can be difficult when many decisions are already handed down from the federal government. However, the state has a few play calls it can make to lower costs and increase access. Fully repealing certificate of need, reforming scope of practice for providers to serve to the full extent of their education, and making it easier for international medical school graduates to work would make a tremendous difference, especially in areas of the state without many providers.
